Harold Pinter - Not A Carl Sagan Screenplay
The planet is alight with a furry unknown for some time, and the actor does not disappoint us.
I’m not interested in debating the political merits of his speech, except to say educated minds shall and should Google for evidence pro/con his speech and apply (as you should in all things) the lost art of critical thinking in his speech as well as the responses to it.
However, as a work of art in itself and an act of living history one should stream this video in high-def, full screen it, and pinch yourself when you think this is some movie clip from a Carl Sagan screenplay.
You can be forgiven, because this is what you will see:
A wise but haggard looking old man, learned and artistic, wearing all black up to his neck, sick from cancer - the world or both, a red blanket on his knees, sounding profound and dignified, behind a blue background, and is denouncing the decline of the Western World, the tyranny of war, and the corruption of Western politicians at the most prestigious event on earth attended by the most learned, and the entire globe ignites in a firestorm and watches it from the shores of China to the cornfields of Idaho through a decentralized global network at the speed of light.
You have to appriciate the cinematic brilliance he has pulled off in this speech, and if you can check your cynicism at the door, you may also lean in to hear what he is saying.
